the obstetrics gynecology includes numerous disciplines dedicated to women’s health and well-being besides pregnancy (gynecology) or during pregnancy and labor (obstetrics).
Generally it is a surgical specialty but some gynecologists don’t perform surgery nor labors : they are then called medical gynecologists.
Gynecology is divided in several branches:
– Obstetrics which is the monitoring of pregnancy and labor.
– Gynecology in itself which has for purpose the diagnostic and treatment of diseases of the reproductive organs and breasts (diseases of the uterus, of the ovary, of breasts, STDs), the detection of gynecologic cancers through smear tests and mammographies in collaboration with radiologists, fertility treatments, birth control (contraception or abortion) and menopause treatments.
– Senology is about breast illnesses and is a specialty of gynecology.
– pelviperineology which is a section of surgical gynecology focusing on disorders of the static pelvic.
